How the rankings are built

Four AI platforms

We query ChatGPT (via OpenAI), Claude (via Anthropic), Perplexity, and Gemini (via Google) each month using web-search-enabled API access to match consumer behaviour. This approach matches how real buyers interact with AI when asking for recommendations.

Sixty queries per city

Every city run submits 60 distinct prompts combining buyer framings: 'who should I hire', 'best', 'most recommended', and specific variants. Each prompt runs on all four platforms, giving 240 responses per city per month.

Two scores

Businesses rank by ARS (AI Recommendation Share: raw mention rate) and CIS (Composite Index Score: weighted by frequency, platform coverage, position, and citation quality). Scores from real responses, never modelled or inferred.

Questions people ask AI about this

Every industry with at least one live-with-data city is listed in the section above. We prioritise professional service industries where AI recommendation has high buyer-decision weight: tax accountants, mortgage brokers, financial advisers, family lawyers, corporate lawyers, personal injury lawyers, immigration lawyers, psychologists, air conditioning installers, and IVF clinics. New industries are added based on buyer query volume and data availability.

Monthly. Each city is re-run at the start of every month with the same prompt set, giving us month-on-month movement data. The Princeton GEO paper (KDD 2024) confirmed AI recommendations shift as training data and retrieval indexes update, so monthly cadence is the minimum needed to detect real trends rather than random variation.

Coverage expands city by city as we add runs. A city becomes "live" for an industry once we have completed a full run (60 prompts across 4 platforms). Larger metros typically have more industries live first because buyer query volume is higher. Regional cities follow based on demand.
